Sponsored Trees Winter 2025 - Spring 2026
We have some wonderful business sponsors and donors this year who wish to support tree planting across the 32 counties of Ireland this Winter 2025 - Spring 2026. These sponsors make it possible for us to offer trees free of charge to schools and colleges, farmers and smallholders, and to community projects.
Please read the following notes carefully before making an application. If you have any queries at all please email to info@treesontheland.com and we will be happy to help with any questions.
Applications for sponsored trees will close at 5pm on Tuesday 30th September 2025. Please apply promptly to avoid disappointment as we cannot take late applications. We may close applications early if all trees have been accounted for before the deadline - don’t leave your application to the last minute!
Making an application does not guarantee that your project will be suitable for sponsored trees. We screen all applications carefully and will contact you by email and / or telephone to discuss your application, finalise details and tree numbers and to confirm whether you will receive sponsored trees.
There is no lower or upper limit to tree numbers and we welcome ambitious projects which can be developed and planted over a number of years.
If you wish to accommodate Sponsored Trees you need to be willing accept the following conditions and guidelines:
This scheme is suitable for establishing small woodland areas, hedgerows, shelter belts, coppice, orchards, agroforestry, parkland and all sorts of other tree cover.
It is not intended for planting larger areas of woodland or forestry, however we can advise on this if you are interested in planting larger plots.
Please note that we cannot supply trees for the DAFM ACRES schemes or for any DAFM Forest Service Afforestation Schemes. We can occasionally help with trees to be planted through the DAFM Forest Service Agroforestry FT8 Scheme - please make it clear in your application form if you are working with this scheme.
You must be willing to accommodate trees permanently. This means that areas you plant are intended to remain under continuous tree cover for the long term.
The land you plant on remains your land and the trees become your property at the point of planting. Our sponsors and donors make no claim of ownership on the trees.
You will need to be ready to plant the trees yourself with help from family and friends or local contractors and to look after them to ensure that they get a good start.
You will need to send us a simple map of the areas you intend to plant and photographs of the ground before planting. These must be included in your application form.
You will need to protect your trees with appropriate fencing and/or tree guards to protect them from livestock or wild animals browsing, rubbing or trampling. All tree planting areas must be clearly marked out and protected from mowers, toppers, hedge flails, strimmers. Contractors must be notified of tree planting areas to avoid accidental damage.
We encourage you to actively manage and use the trees planted. This means that you can trim, thin, prune, coppice and harvest trees and fruit at appropriate stages of growth in line with sustainable management principles, so that there will always be continuous tree cover on the original planting areas.
You will need to send us photographs of the planted trees when they are in the ground so that we can keep accurate records and provide sponsors with proof of planting. When your trees have been delivered we will send you a link to fill out a short form to confirm that your trees are planted and to upload photos of your trees.
We need you to stay in touch with us so that we can monitor trees; we will work with you to ensure that the trees establish successfully up to 5 years of age. We can replace any significant failures and provide detailed advice and support on management and maintenance of your trees. We send out an annual online survey which is a simple way for you to update us on the progress of your trees and let us know if you need help or advice on management.
We need you to give us permission to share these photos with sponsors and for our sponsors to publish them on their own websites, social media and other general media. We give guidance on photos so that you can photograph just the trees if you prefer that faces and locations are not visible in the photos.
The Trees on the Land team may make occasional visits to help with planning and to see how the trees are settling in. We will never visit without making an appointment and we do not expect any kind of public access to the trees or to your land.
Some of our sponsors are keen to help out with tree planting and to visit the trees occasionally. There is space on the application form to say whether you would be happy with this or not.
We manage all communications and organisation of sponsors and donors - you will not need to worry about anything beyond planning and carrying out your tree planting and minding the trees once they are planted.
We have limited funds to help with fencing and tree guards for selected projects. We will discuss your fencing and guarding plans with you during the planning phase of your project.
If you are making promotional materials, videos etc. or publishing information about your project on social media or print media we’re always grateful if you mention Trees on the Land - do please contact us and let us know if you intend to do this.
** New This Season - Optional Donation - Application Fees **
Trees on the Land handles and co-ordinates up to 1,500 applications for trees each year - we are unique in the great number and diversity of people and communities we work with across the island of Ireland. We rely almost entirely on donations and sponsorship to cover the costs of preparing projects for planting before any costs of trees or deliveries.
If you would like to contribute towards the costs of your application with a voluntary donation, please follow the link on the confirmation page when you submit your application. Thank you.
